There's a lot of speculation swirling around the relationship between this pair. I think that when they finally square off on even footing, the results are going to be one of the best action sequences in television history.

If you found Peter Jackson's Hobbit film series a tad padded, maybe the 1985 Soviet television movie The Fabulous Journey of Mr. Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit, Across the Wild Land, Through the Dark Forest, Beyond the Misty Mountains. There and Back Again, which tells the same story in only 1 hour 11 minutes and 52 seconds, might be more to your liking.

Fresh Take: Scary Potter

Scary Potter Series by Dylan Pierpont

Concept artist Dylan Pierpont imagines an even darker version of the Harry Potter saga you know and love. His illustrations evoke the spine-chilling spirit of Alfonso Cuarón's Prisoner of Azkaban.
"A while back I was thinking about a few of the stories and characters that had a big influence on me growing up. And while Harry Potter was by far and away the most age appropriate of the group, I couldn't help but remember how dark some of the themes became over the course of the series. So this project is test to push those ideas to the forefront and see what we come up with... #ScaryPotter style!"

Link Round-Up: BioShock Anniversary

BioShock film could have been made today, director says
"Verbinski said his team was eight weeks into working on the film, which is based on Irrational Games’ dystopian first person shooter of the same name, when the studio pulled the plug on the project. Verbinski said the studio wanted to give the film a more accessible rating (like a PG-13), and he didn’t want to make the movie if it wasn’t going to be rated R."
BioShock is Still Great, 10 Years Later. Here's Why.
“The game holds up reasonably well today, played especially with an eye for its immersive sim DNA and less as a straight shooter. It's especially fun to hack machines and make them do the work, or let your wacky environmental powers wreak havoc on the ecosystem—bait splicers out to a shallow pool and electrocute them, or enrage a big daddy and lure them into a circle of death. It's nowhere near as deep an immersive sim as its cousins in the Dishonored or Deus Ex series, but those elements are still fun to play with, and add needed variety to subsequent playthroughs. I still enjoy its grand, theatrical style—Sander Cohen descending the staircase at Fort Frolic, the pivotal "A Man Obeys" scene, and the statues and banners and signage about the world that are the opposite of subtle, but they sure make their mark. This is a grand, jazz-hands flailing vision, and where it can be accused of being corny, it was never ashamed to go all the way.”

Humor: Tales from Ikea

I used to have anxiety dreams about surprise math tests.  After one faithful afternoon, I now dream about getting from the center of an Ikea to the bathrooms in a sudden hurry.  I'm glad I'm not alone the experience.  I swear, one day I'm going to meet David Bowie in one of these places.

Video: HISHE Guardians of the Galaxy 2

How It Should Have Ended created their animated interpretation of how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 should have ended. It features character art and animation work by Daniel Baxter with background artwork by Otis Frampton.
Since it hit theaters we started building this episode. Some HISHE’s take longer than others and this one was one of those longer ones. One because there are so many characters in this movie we had to actually cut out some of our ideas. And Two we were in an extremely busy time over here with babies being born, going to conventions, and then moving HISHE into a new home. But it’s finally here! So please enjoy! This episode was a blast to work on. I’m sorry it couldn’t be 20 minutes long with 5 bonus credits scenes.

Crafts: Mandalorian Armor

Feast your eyes on this incredible coplay build fashioned from scratch by Imgur user wyndryder. It's built on top of a umpire chestguard, which is very practical, but the it stands out for hand-detailed armor wear.

If you'd like to build your own, Wyndryder was kind enough to photograph each step of the creation process.  It all looks pretty straight-forward, but I'm sure that if I ever tried my hand at building something like this, I'd end up looking like a walking crayon drawing of a Mandalorian.

I can't find an associated website or Reddit entry, but there has to be one somewhere.  I you find it, please drop a link in the comments section below!

Link Round-Up: Orphan Black

There are few prominent roles for women in the television today, and Tatiana Maslany was lucky enough to play nine of them on Orphan Black, which has just recently concluded with its 50th episode.  While the series was never a ratings darling what with airing on the BBC, it did have boast a devout following (the #CloneClub) for its sophisticated portrayals of feminism and femininity.

The show garnered praise and buzz for (previously unknown) lead actress Tatiana Maslany.  EW proclaimed early in the show's run that "There's no better special effect on television right now than Tatiana Maslany playing a variety of clones."  In fact many critics are currently of the opinion that Tatiana Maslany is the Best Actress on TV.

ASMR, The Internet Subculture Of “Sounds That Feel Good,” Is Going Mainstream

Blackfish is a YouTube content creator that loves to make stuff. Their most popular videos are of their weapons that they make from cardboard. Blackfish makes them all fully functional, so they all reload and fire like their real counterparts. On Thursday, Blackfish released a video of their newest template: a mini sniper rifle.

Continuous belt printers are pretty big news. Hironori Kondo took the time to break down the pros and cons in simple language. It turns out there’s more to it than simply having a bed that goes forever.

Sweets: Gingerbread Iron Throne

Gingerbread Iron Throne
Source: Imgur via Neatorama

The Iron Throne was forged at the order of Aegon the Conqueror, first of the Targaryen Kings.  It was forged from the 1,000 swords surrendered to him in the War of Conquest. The dragon Balerion the Black Dread melted them before they were hammered into a throne.

Personally, I prefer this one.  It was made a group of friend for their Christmas festivities.  Of course, in my house, gingerbread is even more like to cause infighting than a throne, but I can't help but think it would be worth it.
