The world would be cooler, if not better, place with large animal-like mechas in it.  Robert Chew put some insanely meticulous detail into these robotic companions, from Barn Owl Recon Units to Kingfisher Snipers, even explaining the mechanical nuances that allow them to move like their counterparts in the nature.

2156 Poaching runs rampant in Africa. As Rangers and Poachers vie for control of the last endangered animals in Africa another conflict rages on the West Coast of America. California is being hit with the worst drought in the states history. Temperatures are reaching record highs with no rain in sight. The agriculture industry is on it’s last leg as the major cities centers draw more and more water away from the farmland to sustain the many millions within their limits. As lawmakers and politicians debate the situation the environment reaches a tipping point. In the summer of 2156 massive wildfires ignite across the state threatening towns and cities both large and small. The parched landscape is prime for some of the largest and most destructive fires on record. Stretched to the limit, the California Fire Service scrambles to deploy teams across the state to combat the fires before they can reach major civilian centers. Mobilizing both local and state fire units as well as volunteers they battle the inferno to protect both the land and the livelihoods of the people. Deployed in the field with them are advanced drones in the shape of local wildlife. They bring much needed assistance to the field, but will they be enough? ——- Another idea in the works.

Mongolia 2156 The bitter cold stung her face as she reached the peak. The repeated gusts of wind from the drone landing behind her didn’t help. Once the great Eagle situated itself the pair looked over the steppe with sharp eyes. The various herds of goats, sheep, horses, camels, and yaks from the nomads looked like ants against the great snow covered peaks on the other end of the valley. Nothing out of the ordinary to report. Temulin and her Eagle drone had the responsibility of watching over the Nomads and protecting the herds from bandits. With international relations crumbling in Central Asia the Border Defense Force played a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of the Mongolian nation. A local to this part of the steppe, Temulin felt at home up the mountains. Settling in for the days watch the two of them continued their vigil, ever at the ready to protect the Mongol way of life.
